چکیده

In the prior literature onmeasuring the efficiency of two-stage processes, there are both radial and non-radial methods of efficiency measurement. In some cases, non-radial methods which allow all inputs, intermediate measures and outputs to change non-proportionally are more appropriate than radial methods, but they do not ensure stage efficiency or allow for the efficiency decomposition of two-stage processes. Based on slacks-based measure (SBM), this paper develops both envelopment-based and multiplier-based models to obtain simultaneously both the frontier projection and the efficiency decomposition. Specifically, we propose the variable intermediate measures SBM (VSBM) model to evaluate the system efficiency of two-stage processes and consider the following three properties of the VSBMmodel: 1) we derive the efficient DEA frontier projection based on the VSBM model; 2) we address potential conflicts in this model with respect to the intermediate measures; 3) we prove that the system inefficiency is equivalent to the sum of inefficiencies of the two stages. Furthermore, we derive the efficiency decomposition of two-stage processes based on the dual of the VSBM model. Finally, we apply our proposed approach to real data of US commercial banks, and extend our approach to settings in which the assumption of variable returns to scale (VRS) holds or there are more general network structures. © 2015 Elsevier B.V. and Association of European Operational Research Societies (EURO) within the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS). A Slacks-Based Measure of Efficiency in Two-Stage Data Envelopment Analysis

As a non-parametric technique, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) evaluates the relative efficiency of peer decision making units (DMUs) that have multiple inputs and outputs. Additive slacks- based measure with undesirable output and feedback for a two-stage structure

This paper develops slacks-based measure (SBM) and additive SBM (ASBM) to evaluate efficiency of decision making units (DMUs) in a two-stage structure with undesirable outputs and feedback variables from the internal perspective. The SBM model is linearized  for a specific weight and the ASBM model is reformulated as a second order cone program. The target values for all inputs, outputs (both d...

The overall efficiency and projection point in network DEA

Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is one of the best methods for measuring the efficiency and productivity of Decision Making Units (DMU). Evaluating the efficiency of DMUs which have two or several stages by using the conventional DEA models, is equal to consider them as black box. This method, omits the effect of intermediate measure on efficiency. Therefore, just the first network inputs and t...

Variations on the theme of slacks-based measure of efficiency in DEA

Abstract: In DEA, there are typically two schemes for measuring efficiency of DMUs; radial and non-radial. Radial models assume proportional change of inputs/outputs and usually remaining slacks are not directly accounted for inefficiency. On the other hand, non-radial models deal with slacks of each input/output individually and independently, and integrate them into an efficiency measure, cal...

Presenting a New Model for Bank’s Supply Chain Performance Evaluating with DEA Solution Approach

Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a method for measuring the efficiency of peer decision making units (DMUs) with multiple inputs and outputs. The traditional DEA treats decision making units under evaluation as black boxes and calculates their efficiencies with first inputs and last outputs. This carries the notion of missing some intermediate measures in the process of changing the inputs to...
